Funky Facebook COMPETITION :)

26 02 2010

So we are just one week away from the conference, and things are starting to heat up!

We are giving away two 2500/= vouchers from ODEL to any two individuals who spread around the most hype about the upcoming conference!

Join in the fun now. It’s simple actually. All you have to do is just set the official CO-MUN 2010 poster picture as your profile picture on Facebook, and tag twenty of random your friends on it. Once you’ve done this, message Michael Mendis and let him know that you have joined in the fun.

Once you’ve joined in the competition by changing your profile picture and tagging twenty friends, you can start promoting CO-MUN 2010 in any way you like via the Facebook platform. Just remember, to get on our radar as regards your contributions, you need to constantly update Michael via wallposts on the group or private messages to his profile.

Two winners will be selected, based on how much they have done to promote CO-MUN 2010, and possibly how creative they were in the process of doing so.

Remember, you DON’T have to be a participating delegate of this year’s conference to be eligible! Any wellwisher (ie, someone who wouldn’t mind a voucher from Odel) is welcome to join! 🙂

SO GET FACEBOOKING NOW AND WIN YOURSELF THAT VOUCHER!!!

NB:
*To join, you must *MESSAGE* Michael on his profile.
*To report your activity, you may write on the group wall, or message him privately.
*Wallposts on his profile may result in your DISQUALIFICATION, so please desist.

Opinion: Iranian Dissent

14 10 2009

A few months ago, we saw a media frenzy on the outcome of the Iranian presidential election. Thousands of people were reported to have stepped out into the streets to voice their dissent against the freshly re-“elected” president, Mahmoud Ahmedinajad. In a single stroke of anger, the world witnessed the power of the people, and what democracy means. At the same time, we also saw that, in some situations, the voice of the people, its voracity notwithstanding, can come to nothing.

How angry are you? What did the Iranian Dissent — and the subsequent Iranian Suppression — mean to you? Did it amount to nothing, or did it teach you that we’re only as powerless as how apathetic we are? Do you believe that there is something to the voice of the people, or as Mahmoud demonstrated, that power is all about guns and violence? Or, do you think  the Dissent was blown out of proportions by the Western media, to further their own agenda against a country who had the audacity to defy and deride the time-old veneration of the Western Power?

Let us know what you think. Remember, it is through debate that we arrive at the truth. And it is through voice that we kill apathy.

Official COMUN2010 Blog Launched

30 09 2009

CO-MUN 2009 is just leaving out the backdoor, and guess what, the organising of next year’s leg has already begun — only this time, it is going to be bigger, better and evermore exhilarating!

With the interviews conducted, the organising committee announced, serious deliberations on the nature and magnitude of 2010’s version of COMUN are already underway. Plans are set and the mood is thick with ambition: a fledgeling  committee, making new friendships, coming together to push for something they are all passionate about — making a change, the diplomatic way.

As part of this year’s improvement of the conference, the organisers are embarking on a media-wide publicity programme to ensure that the voices of Sri Lankan youth diplomacy will not go unheard. The launch of a blog, in this light, has become imperative, and will function as an effective mode of communication between enthusiasts, participants, student coordinators, former participants and organisers.

So make sure you keep it here for the latest scoop from inside the 2010 organising committee… And while you’re at it, please do not hesitate to drop in your suggestions and ideas to our official COMUN 2010 email address, comun2010@gmail.com.
